Not much difference! Boys move a little slower than girls when they're adults and will take a new partner more easily. Girls stay active and quick.
Are pups easier to tame?
Yes and no. If adults haven't been handled much, they might not be as tame as pups. But pups are delicate and quick, so older gerbils can be better for new owners or young children. And like humans, pups' personalities can change.
If I adopt an older-younger pair, won't I have problems when one passes away?
Gerbils are social animals and need friends, so no matter which two gerbils you adopt, you will have to face re-partnering eventually. Older males are especially easy to introduce. Older females 2+ years old can't have babies, so we usually put an older female with a male.
Can I donate to help with rescue?
Donations are gratefully accepted. The money donated at adoptions covers only about one half of our costs each year.
ADOPTED!Linus (left) is an unusual and beautiful color - a dilute agouti - and his new buddy Roscoe comes from highly regarded AGS bloodlines. Linus is about 15 months old and was relinquished by his teen owner who was finally ready to get off the gerbil train. We are hoping to find a family interested in attending future AGS shows with these boys, as we'd like Linus to participate in the development of the standard for his color, and we think Roscoe might have great promise in the show ring. A sweet pair with the potential to be not just pets but the start of a fun new hobby!
Rita (right) is as happy as could be with two lovely new female pup friends from ABC Gerbils. They are friendly, tame and very pretty together. Ready to meet their forever home, come see them.
Petunia (left) came from the Maryland Rescue, went to our friend KJ at Moonstone Gerbils where she met Clarissa currently in the midst of a hilariously adorable nutmeg molt! Petunia looks like one of the younger animals in the rescue and seems very happy with her new friend. Now all they need is a home of their own!

Isaac of Newton saw the charm of handsome Whirligig and Crowley and they have headed home. Leigh of Framingham generously recovered from the death of beloved Kingsley by making a spot for solo Shade in her home with her new pup, currently Li'l Man. Roscoe and Linus are looking forward to a charmed life with Leslie and Web after the New England Show.
Thanks for your patience with our slow web site updates!
Blackout of Londonderry went from lonely to busy, taking home four adorable new friends to charm Ian, Daniel and Madeleine. After losing both older gerbils just weeks apart, Lillian and Matthew of Duxbury are consoled by the antics of adorable Cora and Celia. Wendy filled out the Classroom Corps with a rescue pair from New York.

Birthday Wishes
Virginia and Jason celebrate their third birthdays in April, along with two-year old Svetlana, and yearlings Sharif, Bella, and Stax.
ADOPTED!Great big Whirligig also went from the Maryland Rescue to KJ's, where he made friends with handsome Crowley. A very handsome pair with show potential, or just great pets for a new or experienced gerbil owner. Very nice boys who can't wait to find their own family.
Okay, this is not your average placement. Smokey is a nice gerbil who's had a pretty tough time. Read all about her story on the Maryland Rescue page (Tank 7). In short, though, we are looking for an adventurous but flexible family who would be interested in letting Smokey make a try at raising her own family. Your end of the bargain: keep Smokey and some daughters if and when that happens; if not, keep Smokey and her new partner as your forever friends. Or, if you have a male alone and feel like you'd like to try raising a litter (but are happy to keep her if she's too old for babies), please get in touch.
Update: Smokey (now Bijoux) is trying an intro with our friend Ruth in Arlington. Stay tuned!
Our gerbils are
all healthy, friendly, hand-tame, and adorable. Recommended donation $20 per pair. We provide lifetime support and a "welcome back" policy. If one of your gerbils dies, we will help introduce the survivor to a new friend.
